Website and Ordering
Upon opening up the main home page – the site appears to go directly into shopping cart mode. The page goes straight into frames in the center of the window, with choice decisions to check off lined up on the left side the page.
At first glance, the site does not appear to be easily navigated and there are no menu changes above the fold – so if the viewer is new to the internet and is not familiar with how a wide variety of web pages operate, they may become easily confused. On detailed viewing of the site, it is noted that at the top section there is Home, My Account and Info in text near the Twitter and Facebook symbols – however, they are in small letters and unless the viewer accidentally places their mouse over them, the text is barely visible. Should the viewer actually mouse over the text, drop down menus will appear to help the viewer go to other sections of the site that are not necessarily available in the bottom menu navigation.
There is a side bar on the site that scrolls with the movement of the page and this bar blocks the bottom navigation menu of quick links, which makes the site appear slightly off kilter and a bit uncomfortable for the average user, as they must be very deliberate and slow in scrolling the page in order to be able to see the bottom choices of the navigation menu – especially if any frames are selected as favorites.
While the site appears to have a decent selection of frames at very low price, locating a specific frame style can be difficult until the consumer realizes that they must check off boxes for specific choices – this process is slow and can be slightly confusing at it takes a while for the selection choices to automatically pop up. This can make the site very slow loading and since it does not allow the consumer to check of multiple boxes at once before it loads, this process can take a bit longer to get the right choices, as visitors must wait for the first clicked choice to load before you can click on additional choices
The consumer, once they have figured out how to move around the site - and have decided on a specific frame to click - they arethen provided with a new pop up window. This pop up window shows a larger image of the frame in detail and gives more information about the frame and provides options for the customer to choose from, such as: Save that particular item(frame) to favorites, Order the frame–and one button that allows the customer to virtually try the frame on with the Zenni Frame Fit™ section.
The Zenni Frame Fit™ box is part of the side bar that stays continually on the page as the page scrolls on the right side of the web site.
Using the Zenni Frame Fit™ for the first time is unusual;the consumer simply uploadstheir own picture to the site by clicking on the upload button. Once the picture is uploaded, the consumer can then click on any frame’s “Try On” button and can see the frame selection superimposed upon their picture. Using this feature can help the viewer narrow down their choices more easily and is one of the better features of the entire site.
Consumers must be a member of the Zenni Optical site in order to complete an order and finish the checkout process. So, signing up is a requirement in order to purchase any items from the site. The consumer can track their order from the site and there is some information about how to understand eyeglass prescriptions – and how to measure Pupil Distance. Other than those small pieces of information there is not much more on the site that is easily visible as far as additional information.
Guarantee / Returns
ZenniOptical.com will replace screws and nose pad pieces as needed at no additional charge and will even provide a tool to assist in repairing the item. However, the customer must have the item number in order to do so.
No Full refunds are issued instead; replacement for defective items is warranted and if a consumer decides they do not care for the glasses, upon return to the company, a 50% off will apply to the next pair ordered.
Returns are accepted with proper procedure followed and while it is a detailed listing, the instructions are fairly easy to follow.
